CRF Third Loyola Receivership Seminar Outstanding Success

By Rense, Kirk*

The coordinated efforts of some 45 receivership professionals and eight distinguished judges produced a spectacular two-day seminar on receiverships and receivership law at the Loyola Law School’s downtown LA campus on January 15-16.

Produced every four years by the California Receivers Forum, this third intensive confluence of expert panels and distinguished speakers was easily the most comprehensive program on receiverships ever produced in the U.S.

Two hundred attendees heard 22 key topics outlined and discussed by panels comprised of seasoned receivership professionals and jurists intimately familiar with the use of receivers in civil litigation, family law, regulatory proceedings, real property disputes, corporate dissolutions and additional nooks and crannies of the judicial system.

Some 800 pages of written dissertations, exemplars, forms, sample materials and case studies supplemented the oral discussions.

Robert Mosier, co-chair of “Loyola III,” attributes the success of the program to the rapidly expanding use of receivers by California state and federal courts in the declining economy.

“The increasing need for receivers, especially in real-property related disputes in this unfortunate economy, and the willingness of Forum members to selflessly share their knowledge and expertise produced both record attendance and an unprecedented level of sophistication in discussions, lectures and materials,” Mosier said.

Photos of attendees and presenters throughout this issue of Receivership News will suggest the degree of good will and enthusiasm that characterized the event.

Perhaps the best news is that those persons who were turned away because of lack of seating and those who wish to learn more about the law and practical aspects of receiverships can still do so.

A set of four DVD’s containing the entire two-day event, including all panels and special luncheon presentations by a quartet of federal and state agency regulatory counsel and by Professor Dan Schechter of Loyola Law School on the makeup of an ideal appointing order, may be purchased for $395.

The package includes all written resource materials and is certified for 14 hours of MCLE or CPE professional educational credit. See the ad on Page 15 for ordering instructions.
