In Memoriam - David Ray

By Bronston, Edythe *

The legal community lost a wonderful friend in June, when David Ray left us after a valiant fight with cancer. David was a Renaissance man, living life to the fullest at all times and in all of his many endeavors. He started his professional life as an actor, a skill that stood him in good stead throughout his legal career, then as a CPA, where he honed his business skills and set the stage for his later success as a state and federal court receiver and a bankruptcy trustee. David excelled in everything he did, rising to national recognition as head of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees in 2003. He was a founding member of the Los Angeles / Orange County Receivers Forum, serving as its President in 1997, and a founding member of the statewide California Receivers Forum, serving as its President in 1998.

David cut a handsome figure, whether in court, driving one of his beloved exotic cars, traveling to Southeast Asia, or presiding over his many boards. He was a man of grace, intelligence, sophistication....and a caring friend. Above all, he adored his beloved wife, Arlene, and his loving family, all of whom he held close.

David was always ready to lend a hand to a colleague, whether in need of a professional ear or a personal shoulder. He was empathetic and always available. David possessed an ability to have a “30,000 foot view” of organizational direction and challenges and offered his sage guidance for the issue at hand. His visions of the best course of action have stood the test of time.

In 1990, David and Arlene became the first Founding Presidents of STOP CANCER, an organization committed to funding cancer research, and in November, 2012, David and Arlene were honored with the STOP CANCER Award of Distinction for their unwavering support.

David will always be lovingly remembered.
